This isn’t a story about a happy ending. It’s a story about a puppy with a broken leg, a system with a broken heart, and the people caught in between.
In Panchrukhi, a place we call home, a sight far too common unfolded – a puppy, a victim of reckless driving, lay whimpering on the roadside. We rushed her to the vet, hoping for a quick fix. But what we found was a system designed for privilege, not for paws in pain. There is no govt. backed hospital that caters to such incidents due to lack of facilities, we took the puppy to the nearest vet hospital in Saliana, Panchrukhi. Doctors and team were very kind and quick to assist, however, there was not much they could do since it required the X-ray diagnosis of the broken leg. Hence we had to seek help at Dr. GC Negi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Holta, Palampur.
Yes, the veterinary staff at both the places we met were angels in white coats. The medical supplies shop owner also went above and beyond, offering us a significant discount on the supplies we needed. The entire hospital staff treated the puppy with kindness, a stark contrast to the harsh reality of the situation.
But here’s the rub: shouldn’t there be a free x-ray facility for these voiceless victims of road-rage? Shouldn’t there be a support system that goes beyond the dedication of a few kind souls?
These aren’t pampered companion pets that have privileged support behind them; they’re victims of a system that overlooks their plight. More often than not, their injuries are a result of human negligence. Shouldn’t there be government funding to ensure their complete recovery? Shouldn’t hospitals have facilities to keep them under observation?
The system we have is designed to turn a blind eye. It discourages aid, leaving the onus solely on individuals like us. We have systems to exploit, but none to empower the voiceless.
This isn’t just about a puppy; it’s about the countless strays suffering in silence. It’s about a system that needs a complete overhaul.
This is a call to action for everyone with a compassionate soul and determined voice.
- We need your voices to champion the cause of voiceless animals.
- We need free medical care for injured strays. We need shelters to provide them with a safe haven during recovery.
Let this be the story that sparks a change. Let Panchrukhi, and every place like it, become a beacon of hope for those who can’t speak for themselves. Together, we can spark a wave of change for Panchrukhi’s voiceless animals, and beyond. Let’s make a difference!
